Friday May 20th was the date of the official opening of the Park Studios, although those of you who attended the Open Day on May 8th will have had a sneak preview!
The studios mark the end of the first phase of building/development work at Tring Park. The next phase will involve the demolition of the existing art block and the rebuilding of the same on a site adjacent to the Markova Theatre together with a sixth form facility. After exhaustive fund raising the final phase of the development will see the erection of a state of the art theatre that can accommodate more than two grand jetes before depositing the dancer in the wings! The Markova theatre will then house more intimate presentations and dramas.
Yet again the weather favoured the school and Vera Finn and myself arrived at midday to a warm sunny day. Following a welcome speech by the principal,Stefan Anderson, drinks and canapés started the proceedings. Vera and I had the opportunity to chat with various guests and it was particularly interesting to talk to Robert Kiel MBE who was responsible for helping the school join the government’s Music and Dance Scheme. (Only nine schools are privileged to be a part of this.)
One very welcome guest was Eve Pettinger, back from her accident and on top form as ever!
Before the official opening at 12.45 guests were invited to wander around the five studios that comprise the new facility and observe the Junior department during dance, singing and drama lessons and a 6th form contemporary dance class.
Countess Verulam, The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, made a lovely speech about her admiration of the arts and her own attempts to emulate as a child by bouncing on her bed and attempting the side splits. It engendered a healthy respect for the skill and talent required! The plaque was then unveiled to applause and a champagne toast.
Following a delicious buffet lunch our day was rounded off with another chance to tour the studios, this time to watch senior classes in musical theatre, boys contemporary dance, ballet and drama.
It was a great day and indicative of Tring Park’s commitment to move with the times and offer the very best facilities for pupils of the performing arts. We wish the school all the best in their fund raising towards the next two phases. Watch this space!

Your head is spinning and you can't stop thinking about the break up, what might have been. If only you had said something different or did something different. I know how you feel...
